Hello everyone,
Ralph Nader was unfairly shut out of the debates this year, but that
doesn't mean that people can learn about the issues. In order to get the
word out we have started leafleting - dropping campaign flyers off at
people's houses. We are trying to cover as much of Champaign Urbana as
possible, so Ralph can get as many votes as possible in November

Leafleting went well this weekend. We had nine volunteers (5 adults and
4 children) and we covered the ninth precinct in Urbana. We learned that
it takes about 5 person/hours (1 person working 5 hours or 5 people
working 1 hour) to cover a precinct. There are 24 precincts in Urbana,
each one has around 300 houses. The people who came up to us on the
street were very enthusiastic and we ended up giving them signs to put
up in their yard.

If we wanted to cover all of the precincts it would take us 120 hours to
do. We finished one in our trial run and I am doing another one on my
way to and from work every day. Therefore, if we can get folks to
volunteer a total of 110 hours between now and November 7th, every
person in Urbana could learn about Ralph Nader. By the way, we are just
dropping the materials off at the door (not in the mail box - that's
illegal) you don't need to knock on people's doors and bother them.

Interested? Here's what you can do:

1) You and some friends can volunteer to do a precinct. Write to me,
tell me where you live, and I will get you a map of your precinct (or a
neighboring one if yours is taken) and the materials to pass out. Then
you can drop off the leaflets on your own schedule either all in one day
or a bit at a time.

2) Meet up with us on the weekends for leafleting. Send me an email to
let me know that you are coming so we can have maps and materials ready.
We are going out on Sunday at 1 pm, and I would like to go out on
Saturday at 1 pm as well (email me if you want to hit the streets on
Saturday). We will meet at the office - on the corner of Church and
Randolf Streets, the entrance is on Church, and go out as a group to 1
or more precincts. If you can spare 2 -3 hours one day this weekend you
can make a real difference in the results this November.

So, if you want to volunteer drop me an email - its easy, the weather
has been good for a walk lately, and it can make a big difference. I
know I haven't recieved anything from Gore or Bush, so I leaflet from
Nader can make an impact.

John Paul
