Hey all,

In order to keep Nader and his issues on the island we need to make sure
he gets at least 5 percent of the vote, and that means we have to get out
his vote!

Nader phone banking is now officially set up for Wednesday and Thursday
(Tuesday having been dropped due to Halloween). It will be done from 6-9
p.m. at the Champaign County Health Consumers, on the 2nd floor of the
Lincoln Building, 44 w. Main St., in downtown Champaign (the same building
that houses the Octopus).

Basically we'll be getting lists from the Nader campaign for folks in this
area who either have identified themselves as Nader supporters in some way
or who are on another list that identifies them as independent votes who
likely have a soft spot in their heart for Nader. But our job will not be
so much to convince them to vote for Nader, as to encourage them if they
are Nader supporters to actually vote.

We'll train folks and a script will be available to work from.

We need to get through as many names on these lists as we can Wednesday
and Thursday (after which we will be splitting the remainder up among
individuals, but that tends to be less efficient for this kind of work).
So, if you can make it on either or both evenings, please let us know (you
can reply individually to this e-mail or phone and leave a message at
328-7410, or contact Chris Beuoy who is also coordinating the phone
banking,at beuoy at uiuc.edu or at 355-3167).

The Nader campaign is putting a lot of importance on this phoning, and
they are relying us as having a well-developed network of folks (thanks
especially to the work of Jim Buell, students here, and others) compared
to other parts of the state. So this is a way to play a significant role.

If you can't make it on Wednesday or Thursday, but are willing to take a
section of the remaining lists to work on from home, please also reply.

Grow we grow!

Alf
