Robert McChesney will speak tonight in the Allen Hall main lounge, 1005
Gregory Drive on the UIUC campus, Urbana. The topic: "Ralph Nader & 21st
Century US Politics." The event runs from 7 to 9 p.m. Admission is free
and open to the public.

McChesney, author of _Rich Media, Poor Democracy_ (UI Press, 1999) is a
professor in the Institute of Education Research at the U of I. He will
appear Wednesday along with Nader at a "Super-Rally" in Milwaukee that is
expected to draw an audience of 10,000.

McChesney's book is a worthy follow-on to critiques of corporate media
domination like Chomsky's _Manufacturing Consent_. He's an ardent Nader
supporter, as his call last week for Democrats to urge Gore to step aside
for Ralph makes clear ;-).

Tonight's event kicks off tonight at 7 p.m. with a musical performance by
Paul Kotheimer, well known locally for his political songwriting. McChesney
will speak at 7:30.

McChesney's appearance is sponsored by the Prairie Green Party, with
assistance from the Urbana-Champaign Independent Media Center.

The local Greens and IMC are also collaborating on a fundraising event at
the Highdive, 51 Main St., Champaign, on Sunday, Nov. 5, which will feature
speakers, bands, skits and more.

Check out www.robertmcchesney.com for more on his work. Information about
the Prairie Greens is available at www.prairienet.org/greens.
